About Us

Our Story

Welcome to Miss Nellie’s, an American restaurant and bar in the heart of Times Square, steps from the Theatre District. Inspired by the fearless spirit of Nellie Bly, we offer a dining experience that’s both bold and inviting. From brunch to late-night bites, our menu blends timeless flavors with a modern edge—paired with signature cocktails, beer, and wine. Whether you're here for a pre-show sip or a weekend gathering, Miss Nellie’s brings adventure to the table.

Her Story

Nellie Bly, born Elizabeth Cochran Seaman on May 5, 1864, in Cochran's Mills, Pennsylvania, was a pioneering journalist whose fearless reporting helped redefine investigative journalism. Taking her pen name from a Stephen Foster song, Bly quickly became a symbol of trailblazing storytelling.

Her career began at 21 after a bold letter to the Pittsburgh Dispatch earned her a reporting job. Known for her tenacity and sharp curiosity, she made waves with exposés on mental health care and labor laws.

In 1887, Bly famously went undercover at the Women's Lunatic Asylum on Blackwell's Island (now Roosevelt Island). Her vivid reports exposed horrific conditions and led to real reform in mental health care, earning her national recognition.

Two years later, she took on a global challenge inspired by Around the World in Eighty Days, completing the trip in just 72 days—and captivating the world.

Throughout her career, Bly championed social justice, covering topics like women’s suffrage, child labor, and workers’ rights. She even reported from the Western Front during WWI and later ran a manufacturing business, earning several patents.

Nellie Bly died on January 27, 1922, but her legacy lives on. Today, Miss Nellie remains a symbol of courage, curiosity, and the power of journalism to inspire change.
